About ME

I am so grateful you are here today!

My name is Ana Ruiz, I am first generation Mexican-American born and raised in California, more specifically the Tongva Lands what is now known as the Inland Empire. My family and descendants come from Zacatecas, Mexico in which I am very honored and proud to say. I first perused this Calling into Midwifery back in 2015. Growing up I always knew that my paternal Grandmother, Magdalena Ruiz who we knew as “Mama Nena” was a Midwife in her hometown. She was the town Midwife and also many of the people from her community came to her to heal their wounds as she had gone through a Nursing program and I believe she was one of the first of the Traditional Midwives from her town to go through any professional training.

All my life I knew of this but it wasn’t until I randomly stumbled across a YouTube video of a homebirth and something inside told me this is what I need to be doing, accompanying families on their birthing journeys. Now I know that it was Mama Nena telling me to wake up and peruse Midwifery just as she did and I haven’t looked back since :) While in Midwifery school I supported families in both hospital and home births as a Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator. It was very important to me that I stayed active in the birthwork community during my Student Midwife journey so that I could continue to establish my future Midwifery Practice.

I’m also professionally trained in body balancing/bodywork through Spinning Babies and bodywork is integrated into my practice and true passion of mine. Bodywork / sobadas was part of the care my grandmother gave to the women she served and culturally how we took care of our bodies to bring us back into balance. Unfortunately, this way of life and skills that were once passed down to us have been mostly lost. Along my journey I’ve been fortunate enough to have teachers/maestras to show me my way back to these original ways. This has allowed me to come to a place of healing in my own life and reclaim my power while  reconnecting to my roots and lineage. So for me Midwifery is much more than just a career it is a calling and a way of life!
